The National Institute of Demographic Studies (Ined) and the High Commission for Planning (HCP) of the Kingdom of Morocco have formalized a framework partnership agreement at the end of February, aimed at enhancing their scientific and institutional collaboration in the fields of population studies and public statistics. At the heart of this collaboration lies the scientific utilization of statistical sources in Morocco, particularly civil status data for mortality studies and the new Family Survey 2025 conducted by the HCP. By merging Ined's methodological expertise, recognized internationally in demography, with the HCP's experience in producing and analyzing demographic and social data in Morocco, this partnership paves the way for new research opportunities regarding family transformations, mortality dynamics, and international migration.
Enhancing International Scientific Collaborations
This partnership aims to develop joint research actions, training initiatives, and scientific valorization around significant contemporary demographic issues. The two institutions are particularly interested in deepening their analysis of changes in family structures, the evolution of mortality and health conditions, international migration dynamics, as well as social and gender inequalities. For the High Commission for Planning, the challenge is to enhance the scientific valorization of the statistical data it produces by developing in-depth analyses of demographic and social trends in Morocco. For the National Institute of Demographic Studies, this collaboration presents an opportunity to broaden international comparisons and conduct new collaborative research based on Moroccan statistical sources. By combining Ined's methodological expertise in demographic analysis with the HCP's experience in the production and utilization of national statistical data, this partnership will enable a better understanding of the ongoing transformations within Moroccan society and will enrich comparative analyses on an international scale.
Established Scientific Collaborations
The signing of this agreement follows a working mission in Rabat, during which two researchers from Ined met with teams from the HCP and the Center for Demographic Studies and Research (CERED). Several concrete collaborations have been identified, including training in biography analysis, a mortality study in Morocco, and thematic research analyses based on data from household surveys conducted by the HCP in 2025 or currently being carried out for 2027-2028.
