Strengthening Ties: Morocco and Cambodia Discuss Bilateral Relations and Peacekeeping Efforts

In a significant diplomatic meeting, Mr. Sovanna extended his congratulations to Morocco for successfully organizing the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping within a Francophone context. This gathering not only highlighted Morocco's commitment to international peacekeeping efforts but also served as a platform for deeper discussions regarding the forthcoming 20th Francophonie Summit, which is slated to take place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in November 2026. The dialogue between these two officials underscored the importance of their bilateral relations, characterized by mutual respect, esteem, and a robust framework of support that has intensified following a pivotal videoconference on October 21 between Morocco's Foreign Minister, Mr. Bourita, and his Cambodian counterpart, Prak Sokhonn.

During this videoconference, the signing of a multidimensional joint communiqué marked a significant milestone in their diplomatic engagement. In this communiqué, Cambodia expressed its unwavering support for Morocco's autonomy plan and reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. The communiqué explicitly stated, "While welcoming Morocco’s efforts to achieve a negotiated political solution to this regional dispute through the autonomy plan submitted by Morocco in 2007, H.E. Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco." Furthermore, Cambodia commended Morocco for its serious, realistic, and credible efforts aimed at resolving the regional dispute and expressed its full backing for the initiatives led by the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy for the Sahara, which align with the parameters set forth in the relevant Security Council resolutions.

Both nations reaffirmed their steadfast dedication to the values and principles of peace, as articulated in the communiqué, where they collectively rejected any separatist agendas that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN member states. They noted that the challenges posed by separatist entities to political security and stability in various regions are as significant as those presented by terrorist and extremist groups. This meeting not only solidifies the bond between Morocco and Cambodia but also emphasizes their collective commitment to fostering stability and peace on a global scale.
