Strengthening Ties: U.S.-Morocco Partnership Celebrated Through African Lion 26 Medical Operations

The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces' medical team recently had the opportunity to reunite with a mother they had assisted following an emergency cesarean section during the African Lion 26 humanitarian civic assistance mission in El Faid, Morocco, on May 2, 2026. This mission exemplified the longstanding partnership between the United States and Morocco, showcasing collaboration between the Utah National Guard and Moroccan military medical professionals. Together, they provided vital medical, surgical, dental, and diagnostic services, underscoring their shared commitment to fostering regional stability and enhancing cooperative efforts in the healthcare sector.

African Lion 26, often abbreviated as AL26, stands as the largest annual joint exercise orchestrated by U.S. Africa Command. Its primary objective is to bolster the collective security capabilities of the U.S., African nations, and their global partners. This year’s exercise was led by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), taking place from April 20 to May 8, 2026, across multiple host nations including Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia. The exercise brought together over 5,600 civilian and military personnel from more than 40 countries, emphasizing innovation as a means to enhance regional security through partner-led initiatives.
