On Tuesday, Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdel-Samad Qiyouh, engaged in fruitful discussions with his Angolan counterpart, Ricardo de Abreu, in Marrakech, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the transportation sector and identifying priority areas for partnership between the two nations. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the fifth Global Implementation Support Symposium (ICAO GISS 2026), providing a timely opportunity for the ministers to share insights and experiences from their respective countries in railway, maritime, and air transport sectors.
During this significant encounter, both parties underscored the importance of improving connectivity between Morocco and Angola, viewing it as a strategic lever to stimulate economic and trade exchanges while contributing to the development of integrated logistical corridors across the African continent. They agreed to maintain consultations and establish mechanisms for follow-up to translate the discussed strategies into concrete actions that would benefit both countries and advance the transportation sector in Africa.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, Mr. Qiyouh highlighted that the discussions specifically addressed bilateral relations in the field of air transport. He noted that Royal Air Maroc currently operates a daily flight between Morocco and Angola, with the potential to expand this route to two or three flights daily in the future, utilizing next-generation aircraft. Furthermore, he mentioned that the discussions also covered maritime connectivity projects, pointing out that the opening of the Atlantic Dakhla Port would significantly enhance links with Angola.
On his part, Mr. de Abreu emphasized that the talks provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the mutual willingness to develop cooperation between the two countries and strengthen dialogue between their ministries. He noted that discussions also encompassed partnerships in civil aviation and prospects for cooperation in the maritime sector, indicating that numerous intersecting initiatives are already underway in the fields of transport and logistics. This meeting was seen as a chance to explore practical ways to further solidify this partnership.
It is noteworthy that the fifth edition of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) is organized by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, running until April 16, under the theme "Regional Solutions, Global Benefits."
