Strengthening Transport Cooperation: Moroccan and Angolan Ministers Meet in Marrakech

On Tuesday, the Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Guioh, held discussions in Marrakech with his Angolan counterpart, Ricardo de Abreu, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of transportation and priority areas for partnership between the two nations. This meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the fifth edition of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (ICAO GISS 2026), provided both ministers with an opportunity to review their countries' experiences in rail, maritime, and air transport.

During this occasion, both parties emphasized the significance of improving connectivity between Morocco and Angola as a strategic lever to stimulate economic and trade exchanges, while contributing to the development of integrated logistical corridors across the African continent. The officials agreed to continue consultations and establish mechanisms for monitoring in order to translate the discussed directions into tangible actions that would benefit both countries and enhance the transport sector in Africa.

In a statement to the press following the meeting, Minister Guioh highlighted that the discussions particularly addressed bilateral relations in air transport, recalling that Royal Air Maroc currently operates a daily flight between Morocco and Angola, with the potential to expand this to two or three flights daily in the future using next-generation aircraft. Additionally, he mentioned that the talks also covered the maritime connectivity project, noting that the opening of the Atlantic Dakhla Port would facilitate enhanced links with Angola.

For his part, Mr. de Abreu indicated that the discussions were an opportunity to highlight the shared commitment to develop cooperation between the two countries and strengthen dialogue between their ministries. He pointed out that the talks also encompassed the partnership between Morocco and Angola in civil aviation, as well as prospects for cooperation in the maritime sector, mentioning that numerous intersecting initiatives are currently underway in the fields of transport and logistics. He stated that this meeting served as a platform to explore ways to concretely strengthen this partnership.

It is noteworthy that the fifth edition of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) is organized by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, running until April 16, under the theme "Regional Solutions, Global Benefits."
