Stricter Regulations to Enhance Funeral Transport Services in Casablanca

New Regulations for Funeral Transport in Casablanca

The municipality of Casablanca has introduced a comprehensive framework aimed at enhancing the quality of funeral transport services. This initiative seeks to ensure that these services comply with health regulations and professional standards, thereby improving the overall experience for grieving families.

According to a document obtained by Maroc Hebdo, the municipality will limit the number of authorized funeral transport companies to a maximum of twenty, selected through a rigorous evaluation process. Priority will be given to businesses that are based in Casablanca and possess relevant experience in the funeral sector.

Companies interested in providing these services must meet several stringent criteria, including having adequate technical resources, qualified personnel, and stable financial standing. Furthermore, they must be compliant with tax obligations and social security regulations. Any unauthorized activity within this domain will be strictly prohibited.

The contracts awarded will last for a duration of ten years, with the possibility of renewal. Selected companies are required to offer continuous service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to adequately meet the needs of families during their time of loss.

Regarding pricing, the municipality has set maximum charges that must be adhered to. For instance, the fee for transporting a deceased individual from their home to the cemetery is capped at 500 dirhams, while the cost rises to 700 dirhams if a stop at the mosque is included. Additionally, per-kilometer rates will apply for journeys outside the city.

The regulations also stipulate strict requirements concerning the vehicles used for transport. Each company must have a minimum of four modern and well-maintained vehicles that comply with hygiene standards. These vehicles are required to be cleaned and disinfected after each use to ensure a sanitary environment.

Employees engaged in the funeral transport services must wear appropriate uniforms, undergo regular medical checks, and receive ongoing training. Furthermore, a detailed log of each transport must be meticulously maintained.

To enforce compliance with these regulations, a monitoring commission will be established. Financial penalties will be imposed for any breaches of contract, which may include the termination of the agreement for severe violations.

Through this new regulatory framework, the municipality of Casablanca aims to significantly improve the quality and transparency of funeral transport services, ultimately benefiting the citizens during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
