Super Falcons Intensify Training in Casablanca Ahead of 2026 AWCON
The Super Falcons of Nigeria are ramping up their preparations for the upcoming 2026 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) as they convene in Casablanca, Morocco. Recently, the squad welcomed AS Roma forward Omorinsola Babajide, marking a total of 12 players in camp as the team gears up for their Group C matches against formidable opponents, including Egypt, Malawi, and Zambia. Notably, the camp also features new Inter Milan signing Toni Payne, alongside seasoned players such as team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, star striker Asisat Oshoala, and defender Christy Ucheibe.
Oluwatosin Demehin, a key figure in the team's defense, expressed her excitement as she reflected on her journey with the national team. Having won the Women Africa Cup of Nations gold in her debut tournament, Demehin highlighted how this achievement continues to fuel her ambition and confidence on the field. "Winning the gold medal and the team lifting the Cup in my first Women AFCON always makes me feel special. It also gives me enormous confidence when we are playing a match or tournament. It showed me what is possible with hard work and teamwork," she stated. Demehin, who plays for Galatasaray Sportive women in Turkey, remains optimistic about the team’s prospects despite the increased competition, particularly with the expansion of the tournament to 16 teams this year.
As the Super Falcons look forward to defending their title, Demehin emphasized the importance of consistency and teamwork, stating, "It will be tough, as more teams are getting stronger in Africa. We are motivated to succeed, but we must be consistent, compact at the rear, fluid in midfield, and clinical in attack." The upcoming friendly match against Ghana will serve as a crucial testing ground for the team as they aim to solidify their strategies and build chemistry ahead of the tournament.
