Empowering Agriculture in St. Vincent with Moroccan Fertilizer
The Ministry of Agriculture in St. Vincent has recently initiated a significant distribution campaign of thousands of fertilizer sacks generously donated by the Government of Morocco, aimed at bolstering the nation’s agricultural sector. As of July 17, 2026, this commendable initiative has successfully reached nearly 2,000 farmers across nine agricultural districts, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing agricultural productivity.
The distribution efforts commenced on Wednesday at the Wallilabou Agricultural Station, with subsequent expansions to the Langley Park and La Croix Palletization Centers the following day. By Friday, distribution was scheduled to take place in Kingstown, Colonaire, Langley Park, and La Croix, ensuring that a wide range of crops can benefit from these essential nutrients, particularly focusing on the production of vegetables and root crops, which are vital to the local economy.
Tailored Fertilizer Solutions for Diverse Farming Needs
Karomo Browne, the Acting Agricultural Diversification Officer, emphasized the importance of providing different types of fertilizers to cater to specific agricultural requirements. For instance, a dedicated container of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) is being allocated specifically for ginger farmers, as part of a strategic initiative to enhance the country's ginger production. Furthermore, Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), known for its high phosphorus content, is being recommended for root crops during their initial planting stages to promote robust vegetative growth.
The largest segment of the shipment consists of nearly 4,000 sacks of NPS fertilizer, a blend that includes nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulphur. This particular formulation is recognized as ideal for a diverse array of vegetables, including legumes, onions, and various species from the Solanaceae and Brassica families, such as tomatoes, sweet peppers, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. The ministry is also committed to ensuring that farmers in the Grenadines benefit from this generous donation, with specific allocations of 63 sacks for Bequia, 43 for Mayreau, and 87 for Union Island, culminating in a total distribution of 4,766 sacks of fertilizer to farmers and industry stakeholders nationwide.
