Supreme Court Upholds Administrative Ruling, Nullifies Election of Parliamentary and Local Leader in Taza

Supreme Court Decision on Election Controversy

On June 19, 2026, the Supreme Court in Rabat delivered a decisive verdict rejecting the appeal filed under number 9875/4/1/2025 by Al-Ghazi Ajdiyou, the former parliamentary representative and head of the Beni Frassen municipality, commonly referred to by local media as 'Bizbiz' or 'Mardi Marato'. This ruling unequivocally affirms the prior judgment issued by the Administrative Court of Appeals in Fes, which annulled Ajdiyou's election as a municipal councilor within this administrative entity.

This critical judicial decision firmly dismissed the defenses and rebuttals presented by Ajdiyou's legal team, which sought to overturn the Administrative Court's ruling. The court had previously upheld an initial judgment that invalidated the electoral results obtained in the Beni Frassen electoral district, situated within the jurisdiction of the Wadi Amlil region in Taza province.

Background of the Controversial Elections

The roots of this contentious issue trace back to the partial local elections held in the rural community of Beni Frassen in 2025, during which Ajdiyou successfully secured a seat in electoral district number 16 representing the Authenticity and Modernity Party, garnering 179 votes. This was a stark contrast to the mere 11 votes received by his opponent from the Independence Party and 19 votes for the candidate from the Democratic Left Federation alliance. However, these electoral results were short-lived as they faced numerous legal and administrative challenges from political rivals and competitors.

Ajdiyou's brief return to the realm of local governance was marred by controversy, particularly his candidacy alongside his wife against family members, which sparked significant public debate. Following the Supreme Court's latest ruling, the situation has reverted to square one, leading to the complete removal of Ajdiyou from his acquired seat. This decision effectively closes the chapter on his temporary political comeback, especially after he had previously been acquitted of charges related to embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds a year and a half ago, which had cast a shadow over his political career.
