Moroccan Blueberry Exports Experience Remarkable Growth

In a significant development for agricultural trade, Morocco has witnessed a substantial increase in its blueberry exports to Switzerland, marking a 75% rise during the marketing year spanning from July 2025 to June 2026. This remarkable growth has resulted in Switzerland importing a total of 655 tons of Moroccan blueberries, valued at over $8.9 million, as reported by the EastFruit news platform. This increase in export volume not only highlights the growing demand for Moroccan blueberries in Switzerland but also reflects Morocco's expanding presence in the international fruit market.

The surge in shipments represents the third consecutive year of growth for Moroccan blueberries exported to Switzerland, achieving a record high in trade between the two nations. Over the last three years, the total volume of blueberry shipments from Morocco to Switzerland has increased by an impressive 2.3 times, with an annual average growth rate of approximately 33%. This trend indicates a solidified relationship between the two countries, driven by Switzerland's increasing reliance on imported blueberries.

Switzerland's Dependence on Imported Blueberries

Switzerland has seen a consistent rise in its blueberry imports over the years, with a reported annual growth rate of 10% over the past five years. For the 2025/26 agricultural season, total blueberry imports reached an impressive 11,800 tons, marking a 17% increase compared to the previous year. The Moroccan blueberry season runs from November through June, with peak volumes occurring in the spring when demand is at its highest in Switzerland.

Interestingly, during the 2025/26 season, imports of blueberries from other countries such as Poland, Italy, and South Africa have seen a decline, while shipments from Spain, Peru, the Netherlands, Chile, and Morocco have increased. Among these suppliers, Morocco has achieved the highest growth rate, solidifying its position as one of Switzerland's top five blueberry suppliers for the first time. This development underscores the competitiveness and quality of Moroccan blueberries in the global market.
