Moroccan Tourism Sees Remarkable Growth
As of the end of June 2026, Morocco has welcomed approximately 9.4 million tourists, marking a significant increase of 6% compared to the previous year, according to data released by the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF). The tourism sector demonstrated a robust performance at the start of the year, achieving a value-added growth of 8.1% in the first quarter of 2026, following an already strong growth of 8.7% in the same quarter the previous year. This positive trend is expected to continue in the coming months, buoyed by the increase in overnight stays in classified accommodation, which rose by 9% by the end of May 2026, building on a 12.4% increase from the prior year. Notable destinations such as Marrakech, Agadir, Casablanca, Ouarzazate, and Rabat have witnessed particularly strong performance, indicating a diverse interest from tourists across the nation.
Furthermore, travel receipts reached nearly 53.8 billion dirhams, reflecting an impressive rise of 14.6% compared to the same period in 2025. This financial boost not only illustrates the health of the tourism sector but also its critical role in Morocco’s broader economic landscape, which relies heavily on tourism as a key driver of growth and development.
