Swedish Citizen Detained in Tangier

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, law enforcement officials from the local judicial police in Tangier, in coordination with the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance, successfully apprehended a 22-year-old Swedish national. This individual was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Swedish judicial authorities due to suspicions of involvement in an attempted murder case.

Available information indicates that a background check on the suspect in the database of wanted individuals revealed that he was sought internationally under a Red Notice issued by Interpol, following a request from the Swedish authorities. The arrest occurred while the suspect was allegedly impersonating another individual and had committed forgery, as he presented a driver's license containing falsified identity information during the identity verification process.

Following the arrest, the suspect was placed in police custody pending an investigation related to the forgery and its use, which is being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office. Additionally, the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol in Rabat has been tasked with informing its counterpart in Sweden regarding the arrest.

This operation underscores the Moroccan security services' commitment to enhancing international cooperation mechanisms, particularly concerning the pursuit and apprehension of individuals wanted for transnational crime.
