Exciting Discovery at Tirzzit Copper Project
Agadir – Talisman Metals PLC, a prominent mineral exploration firm dedicated to copper ventures in Morocco, has made a groundbreaking discovery of a new outcropping copper mineralization zone at its Tirzzit copper project, situated in the Taroudant province of Morocco. This significant finding not only enhances the project's exploration potential but also sets the stage for an anticipated drilling campaign scheduled for later this summer.
The discovery occurred during a reconnaissance mission conducted by the geology team of Talisman Metals, aimed at preparing for the forthcoming drilling program. According to the company's reports, the newly identified mineralized outcrop expands the known copper mineralization zone by approximately two kilometers eastward from the historic TT6 drill hole, which had previously recorded an intersection of 11.40 meters grading 0.60% copper from a depth of 72.8 meters.
Implications of the Discovery
Further prospecting activities north of the ridge that marks the northeastern boundary of the Tirzzit license area led to the identification of this promising new drill target, where visible copper mineralization, including malachite, was observed at the surface. Talisman Metals' CEO, Tim McCutcheon, expressed enthusiasm regarding this discovery, describing it as a highly encouraging advancement for the exploration program. He remarked, "Things are going very well for our team as we gear up to drill at Tirzzit. Sometimes the best geology is uncovered the old-fashioned way, by mapping and prospecting." McCutcheon emphasized the potential of the project, stating, "This outcrop, along with other similar known structures, instills us with immense confidence that we possess a special project at Tirzzit with previously unrecognized size potential."
In order to gain a deeper understanding of the mineralization controls, copper and silver content, thickness, and dip direction, the company has collected channel samples from the newly discovered outcrops. The assay results from these samples are expected to be released in the coming weeks, providing critical data to define future drilling targets.
Located approximately 225 kilometers east of Agadir, the Tirzzit project encompasses a sediment-hosted stratiform copper-silver (Cu-Ag) system that spans 16.5 square kilometers across two mining licenses. In February 2026, Talisman Metals announced the acquisition of this project from a wholly owned subsidiary of Aya Silver & Gold Inc., which currently holds a 4.7% stake in the company.
