Tangier has solidified its position as the fourth most significant tourist destination in Morocco during the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Tourism Observatory. This coastal city recorded over 417,000 overnight stays between January and March, reflecting an impressive annual growth rate of approximately 11%. This performance accounts for about 4% of the total overnight stays registered nationwide, trailing behind Marrakech (34%), Agadir (20%), and Casablanca (8%).
During the first quarter of the current year, hotels and classified accommodation facilities in Tangier achieved an occupancy rate of nearly 47%, which, while notable, is slightly lower than the national average occupancy of 52%. In March alone, the total number of recorded overnight stays reached 133,000, showcasing a remarkable growth of 26% and an occupancy rate that approached 41% of the hotels' and accommodation facilities' capacity.
The report further highlighted that in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the total number of overnight stays for the first quarter amounted to 654,000, reflecting a growth of around 2% and accounting for roughly 7% of the national total, with an occupancy rate of 36%. On a national scale, Morocco recorded a total of 9.85 million overnight stays during the first quarter of the year, marking a 10% year-on-year growth. This figure includes 7.8 million overnight stays by international tourists (a 13% increase) and 2.1 million overnight stays by domestic tourists.
