Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport has achieved a remarkable milestone by welcoming 13,309 passengers in a single day during peak season, as revealed by Morocco Airports. This impressive figure underscores a significant transformation in the air traffic landscape of the Kingdom during the current summer season, which has witnessed historical levels of passenger movement across several airports.
Morocco Airports confirmed today, Tuesday, that Tangier's performance has been particularly noteworthy, positioning it among the top regional hubs, following Casablanca and Marrakech, and surpassing Agadir and Rabat on peak days. During the first weekend of August, Casablanca set a record with 46,439 travelers in just 24 hours, while Marrakech Menara exceeded the 30,000 mark in a single day. Rabat-Salé welcomed 9,226 passengers, and Agadir Al Massira recorded 11,973 travelers. Notably, the airports in Dakhla and Tetouan exhibited the highest growth rates during peak days, achieving increases of 45.2% and 36.14%, respectively.
The significance of Tangier's record is amplified by the city’s strategic position as a transit point connecting Spain, France, and Belgium, serving as a vital passage for the Moroccan diaspora living abroad. Throughout the first seven months of the year, the airport accommodated approximately 1.71 million passengers, having surpassed 1.40 million in the first half of the year, marking an increase of nearly 9%. This surge coincides with ongoing expansion projects aimed at increasing the airport's capacity to 7 million passengers annually.
