TAS Sets Deadline for Morocco to Submit Defense Against Senegal

TAS Establishes May 7 Deadline for Morocco's Response

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) has officially notified the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) of the deadline to submit its defense in the ongoing dispute concerning the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Senegal. According to reports from _Le360 Sport_, the FRMF is required to present its case by May 7.

The FRMF is reportedly preparing a robust defense. Earlier in April, president Fouzi Lekjaa expressed confidence, stating, "Morocco has compelling and documented arguments, whether through official reports or video recordings." This assertion underscores the seriousness with which Morocco is approaching this case.

Anticipation Builds for Conclusion Post-World Cup

The controversy surrounding the 2025 AFCON final has captivated audiences since March 17, following a shocking decision by the African Football Confederation (CAF) appeals jury to overturn Senegal's on-field victory and award the title to Morocco retroactively. Senegal had sought an expedited process, but both Morocco and the CAF declined, citing the need for adequate time to prepare their defense.

Given the traditional length of such proceedings, which typically take between nine to twelve months, a resolution is not expected until after the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Morocco will compete in the tournament as the reigning African champions, further heightening the stakes of this ongoing dispute.
