Teen Dies in Celebration After France-Morocco Match: Truck Driver Charged

Tragic Incident During World Cup Celebrations

A 45-year-old truck driver has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl during celebrations for France's victory over Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals. The incident occurred in Aulnoye-Aymeries, northern France, late Thursday night. According to the Avesnes-sur-Helpe prosecutor, Laurent Dumaine, the driver was charged due to his "driving under the influence of alcohol" and for failing to assist the victim immediately after the accident.

The driver was taken into custody after the incident. He is facing serious charges that could result in a prison sentence of up to ten years and a hefty fine of 150,000 euros, although he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Witnesses reported that several people had climbed onto the truck's flatbed to celebrate the win, and it was during this revelry that the teenager fell and was subsequently run over by the vehicle as it started to move.

This unfortunate incident has shocked the local community, prompting calls for increased responsibility during celebrations. Jean Durieux, the cultural deputy mayor, expressed the city's collective sorrow, emphasizing the need for safety in future festivities.
