Tensions Rise as Agadir Oufella Displays Banner Affirming Moroccan Claims Over Sebta
A significant symbolic action took place at the historic site of Agadir Oufella on the dawn of August 5th, which has drawn considerable attention and stirred public sentiments. A large banner proclaiming the message "History cannot be denied! Sebta forever belongs to us" was unfurled and later circulated on social media by the Ultras Imazighen, a supporters' group of Hassania de Agadir (HUSA). This provocative statement, translated as "L’histoire ne peut être niée ! Sebta nous appartient pour toujours," aims to reinforce Morocco's position regarding Sebta while condemning the actions attributed to extremist Spanish groups against young Moroccans attempting to reach Sebta and Melilia in recent days.
The mobilization comes against a backdrop of escalating migratory pressure on the occupied enclave, with Madrid authorities reporting that tens of thousands of individuals have returned to Morocco following thwarted entry attempts. This surge has prompted the deployment of extensive security measures, including police and military forces. Tragically, several migrants have lost their lives while attempting to reach Sebta via maritime routes. The situation has also intensified in Melilia, where the crossing point at Beni Ansar was temporarily closed due to a collective entry attempt. Furthermore, the presence of Spanish far-right activists in the area has provoked strong reactions from residents who have denounced their hostile rhetoric towards migrants. In response to this backlash, some of these activists ultimately withdrew under police protection.
