Thailand Implements Visa Requirement for Moroccan Citizens
In a significant policy shift, Thailand has announced that as of September 15, 2026, Moroccan citizens will no longer be permitted to enter the country without a visa. This decision, which stems from new immigration regulations, was officially communicated by Thai authorities on August 31. From this date forward, Moroccan passport holders will be required to obtain a visa prior to their arrival in Thailand, marking a departure from the previous arrangement that allowed visa-free travel for Moroccan nationals.
The Thai Ministry of the Interior formally published this modification in the Royal Gazette on August 31, thereby ending the former system that enabled citizens from 93 countries, including Morocco, to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa. Under the revised visa exemption policy, the duration has been shortened to 30 days, affecting only 60 countries, with Morocco excluded from this new list.
Furthermore, Moroccans are also omitted from other revised entry schemes, such as a 15-day exemption for visitors from Mauritius and Seychelles, as well as a visa-on-arrival option for nationals from several countries including Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Serbia. These policy adjustments will come into effect 15 days after their announcement, allowing Moroccan travelers to continue enjoying visa-free access until the specified date.
For those already in Thailand before these changes take effect, they will be able to complete their stay as planned. However, from September 15 onwards, Moroccan travelers must arrange for their visas in advance. Fortunately, the process can be conveniently completed online through Thailand's e-Visa system, which allows Moroccan residents to finalize their applications without needing to visit a Thai embassy in person.
