Celebrating Theatre: A Cultural Renaissance in Casablanca-Settat
From April 15 to April 25, 2026, the Casablanca-Settat region will host the 19th edition of the International Theatre & Cultures Festival, a vibrant cultural event organized in collaboration with the Foundation of Living Arts and Casa Events and Animation. This festival is not only a celebration of theatrical performances but also a significant initiative aimed at fostering regional cultural development and promoting the arts within various local communities.
This year's festival stands out for its commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the arts, highlighted by the participation of a Palestinian theatre troupe for the very first time. Noureddine Ayouch, President of the Foundation of Living Arts, expressed his excitement about this year's lineup, stating, “This edition is particularly interesting as we welcome a remarkable woman both as a director and actress from Palestine, who will perform a solo piece exploring themes of life, sharing, recognition, and forgiveness.”
A Rich International Program
The festival promises an engaging selection of performances from an array of countries, including Palestine, Italy, France, and Morocco. In total, eleven diverse productions will be showcased, combining both national and international works to encourage intercultural dialogue and artistic exchange. Renowned figures from the artistic community, such as Tahani Samil, Rula El Habahbeh, David Harold (director of the Off Festival in Avignon), and Mazen El-Gharabaoui, will also contribute to this enriching experience, further bridging connections between international theatrical landscapes.
In an effort to democratize access to culture, the festival will take place across various iconic cultural venues in Casablanca, and for the first time, in El Jadida and Ben Ahmed. This strategic territorial approach is designed to enhance the visibility of regional cultural infrastructure and provide a broader audience with the opportunity to engage with the performing arts.
In addition to the performances, the festival will host a series of conferences and masterclasses aimed at nurturing young talent and theatre enthusiasts. These sessions will delve into actor training, cultural dialogue, and the role of theatre in contemporary society. The opening ceremony, scheduled to occur at the Studio of Living Arts, will feature a premiere presentation of the play "Data Love," directed by Amine Nasseur, setting the tone for an inspiring festival ahead.
Ultimately, the organizers view this festival as more than just an artistic event; it serves as a vital lever for regional cultural development. Through this edition, Casablanca-Settat reaffirms its ambition to transform theatre into a space for connection, creativity, and cultural dialogue.
