The Results of the 2026 Elections for the Party of Progress and Socialism
In the recent 2026 parliamentary elections, the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) managed to secure a total of 19 seats in the House of Representatives. This distribution includes 10 seats from local constituencies and 9 from regional lists designated for women. The party's performance, however, fell short of its ambitious goal of obtaining at least 50 seats, highlighting a significant decline from the previous elections where they garnered 22 seats in September 2021.
Among the successful candidates from the party, Rashid Hamouni won a seat in the Bolman constituency, while Mariam Wahsa secured her position in Beni Mellal. Additionally, Ahmed Al-Abadi triumphed in Taza, and Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzidi claimed victory in Taounate-Tissa. Other notable winners in local constituencies include Osman Al-Morsi in Essaouira, Abdelkhaleq Bissanti in Larache, Hassan Darham in Laayoune, and Mohamed Qasha in Tinghir.
On the regional fronts, the party celebrated victories with Mariam Al-Kanouni in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudai in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumia Mansaf Haji in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, among others. The list of female representatives also includes Khadija Al-Baz in Souss-Massa and Ahlam Jeld in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, completing a lineup that reflects a commitment to women's representation within the party.
Despite these wins, the PPS is grappling with disappointment as the election outcomes did not meet their expectations. The party had previously expressed aspirations for a much stronger showing, which has raised questions about its future strategies and voter engagement, reflecting a broader trend of political challenges in the current Moroccan political landscape.
