The Outcomes of the 2026 Elections for the Progressive Socialist Party
In the recent 2026 elections for members of the House of Representatives, the Progressive Socialist Party (PPS) secured a total of 19 seats. These seats are distributed between 10 from local districts and 9 from regional districts designated for women. Notably, this result fell short of the party's expectations, as they had initially aimed to win at least 50 seats.
According to the party's announcements, several candidates emerged victorious in their respective constituencies. Rashid Hamouni won in the Boulemane district, while Mariam Wahsa secured a seat in the Béni Mellal district. Additional victories included Ahmad El-Abadi in Taza, Abdellah El-Idrissi Bouzidi in Taounate-Tissa, Amin Bezzid in El-Jadida, and Fouad Karim in Khmissat and El-Mas. In the local districts, Othman Al-Mrassi won in Essaouira, Abdelkhaleq Bessinti in Larache, Hassan Al-Dahrim in Laayoune, and Mohamed Qasha in Tinghir.
For the regional districts, the PPS saw victories from candidates such as Mariam Kanouni in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudai in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumia Mounsef Haji in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra. Additionally, Hanan Al-Soufi claimed a seat in the Eastern region, while Fatima Essoidi won in the Laayoune-Saquiat al-Hamra region. Other notable winners include Khadija Al-Baz in Souss-Massa, Ahlam Jeld in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Fatima Zahra Barhioui in Fes-Meknes, and Hafida Imami in Beni Mellal-Khenifra.
Despite these victories, the results signify a decline in the party's electoral performance, as they had achieved 22 seats in the previous elections held on September 8, 2021. This decrease reflects a challenging political landscape and raises questions about the party's future strategies and appeal to voters.
