The Electoral Results of the Progressive and Socialist Party
In the recent 2026 parliamentary elections, the Progressive and Socialist Party (PPS) succeeded in securing a total of 19 seats within the House of Representatives. This allocation encompasses 10 seats acquired in local constituencies and 9 designated for the women’s regional seats. The elected representatives include Rashid Hamouni from the Boulemane district, Mariam Hassaa from Beni Mellal, Ahmed Al-Abadi from Taza, and Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzaidi from Taounate-Tissa, among others. Additionally, Osman Al-Marsi won a seat in Essaouira, while Abdelkhaleq Bessenti claimed victory in Larache. In the region of Laayoune, Hassan Al-Darham emerged victorious, along with Mohamed Qasha from Tinghir.
On the women’s regional front, the PPS celebrated wins including Mariam Al-Kanouni in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudai in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumia Munsif Haji in Rabat-Salé-Kenitra. The successful candidates also featured Hanan Al-Soufi from the eastern region and Fatima Asweidi from Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, as well as Khadija Al-Baz from Souss-Massa and Ahlam Jeld from Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, concluding with Fatima Zahra Barhiyoui from Fez-Meknes and Hafida Imami from Beni Mellal-Khenifra.
Disappointment Amidst Expectations
Despite the notable achievement of securing these seats, the results fell short of the party's ambitious expectations, which had initially projected a minimum of 50 seats. This result also marks a decline from their previous electoral performance in the September 8, 2021 elections, where the Progressive and Socialist Party garnered 22 seats. Such a drop in representation raises questions about the party's strategy and future direction, as it endeavors to regain momentum in the political landscape.
