The 'Bouze Flow' Case: Court Deliberation Set for June 18th

The Ongoing Legal Saga of Rapper Bouze Flow

The legal proceedings involving the Moroccan rapper Jawad Asradi, popularly known as "Bouze Flow," have entered a critical phase as the appellate court in Fes prepares for deliberation. This significant development comes after the completion of various stages of litigation and advocacy surrounding the artist's case, which has captured the attention of both the artistic community and the general public.

On Thursday, the appellate criminal chamber convened to review the case, despite the absence of both the defendant and his legal team. Nonetheless, the court proceeded with the necessary legal protocols, ultimately deciding to reserve the case for deliberation. The court has scheduled June 18th as the date for the final judgment, a decision that has generated considerable interest within artistic and human rights circles.

The background of this case dates back to May 20th, when Bouze Flow was arrested for the content of several of his songs, which were subject to judicial scrutiny. He has been charged with "insulting an organized body" and "insulting public officials while performing their duties," through statements and expressions deemed to violate their honor and dignity as well as the respect due to their authority.

During the initial stages of the proceedings, Bouze Flow appeared in court under arrest, resulting in a preliminary ruling from the court in Safrou that sentenced him to three months in prison, suspended, along with a fine of 2,000 dirhams. Unhappy with this verdict, he appealed, leading to the transfer of the case to the appellate court in Fes, which is now poised to make a ruling on a case that has sparked a broader discussion about the limits of artistic expression.
