The Fourth Edition of the African Book Festival Kicks Off in Marrakech

The Fourth African Book Festival: A Celebration of Literary Diversity

On Thursday, the fourth edition of the African Book Festival commenced in Marrakech, showcasing a remarkable gathering of writers, thinkers, and philosophers. This vibrant festival, held under the theme "Imagining Other Possibilities," spans three days and brings together prominent voices from the African literary scene and its diasporas. The primary aim of the festival is to elevate literature as a beacon of hope, resilience, and imagination, fostering a deeper connection among attendees.

The African Book Festival in Marrakech serves as a dynamic space for cross-generational dialogue, interactions among diverse languages, and the exploration of various fields and specialties. The event features a rich program that includes discussions, readings, and workshops, along with enhanced programming directed towards the youth, ensuring that the next generation of writers is given a platform to express themselves.

This year’s festival is graced by distinguished guests, including Yanick Lahens from Haiti, winner of the prestigious Grand Prize of the French Academy in 2025, and Patrick Chamoiseau from Martinique, who received the renowned "Goncourt" Prize in 1992. Their presence highlights the festival's commitment to showcasing both established literary figures and emerging talents, providing a unique opportunity for promising young writers to shine.

The festival, founded by writer and visual artist Mahi Binebine, extends its reach to other leading academic and cultural spaces, particularly at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Ben Guerir, Cadi Ayyad University, the Rural Girl's Shelter and School, the Mother and Child Hospital (University Hospital Center of Marrakech), the interactive cultural center "Midan," as well as numerous high schools and higher education institutions. This broad engagement exemplifies the festival's mission to foster a love for literature across diverse communities.
