The Growing Disorder in Chaoufa Market: A Call for Local Authority Intervention

Unregulated Market Chaos in Chaoufa

In the Chaoufa neighborhood, located near the Jnan Tissir project under the jurisdiction of the Sidi Ghanem district, the situation has significantly deteriorated with the increasing occupation of public spaces by vendors selling fruits and vegetables from mobile carts. What was once a simple street has gradually transformed into a chaotic open market that operates continuously without any clear organization. This unregulated activity has led to severe traffic disruptions, making it nearly impossible for vehicles to navigate the area, while only bicycles can pass through, creating daily struggles for local residents who find it increasingly difficult to move around and fulfill their daily needs.

The challenges faced by the community are particularly acute for women accompanying their children or those using strollers. The narrow pathways, congested with carts and displayed goods, render passage a daunting task. Compounding the issue, this road serves as the only access route to the local children's nursery, complicating safe access for both children and their parents. In a concerning development, some vendors have recently begun to leave their carts permanently in the middle of the road, effectively blocking it off and inciting widespread frustration among the local population.

In light of these circumstances, numerous citizens are calling for intervention from local authorities to regulate this commercial activity and put an end to the chaos that has taken over the area. They urge for the establishment of designated spaces for street vendors that would allow them to conduct their business while simultaneously preserving the public's right to use the road safely and normally.
