The Disruptive Influence of Artificial Intelligence on Morocco's Job Market
The African Center for Strategic Studies and Digitalization has raised significant concerns regarding the profound transformation of Morocco's labor market due to the advent of artificial intelligence (AI). According to their study, it is projected that by the year 2030, approximately 4.6 million jobs in Morocco could be affected by AI technologies. Out of these, around 1.5 million positions are directly at risk, leading to a net negative impact estimated at 1.32 million jobs. As we look towards 2035, the pressure is expected to intensify, with projections indicating that up to 8 million jobs might be impacted, resulting in a potential deficit of 2.45 million jobs, despite the limited creation of new positions.
This significant shift is particularly alarming for sectors such as offshoring, banking, automotive, and textiles, which are among the most vulnerable to the changes brought about by technological advancements. The study underscores the urgent need for strategic planning and adaptation measures to mitigate the negative implications of AI on employment, ensuring that the workforce is prepared for the future landscape of work.
