Introducing a Pioneering Work in Economic Scholarship
Stay ahead of the news with our Discovery offer, as we delve into a remarkable publication that is set to redefine the landscape of economic scholarship in Morocco. The Oxford Handbook of the Moroccan Economy, which was officially launched on April 9 at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Rabat, aspires to be a significant intellectual milestone. This publication is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first time an African nation has been exclusively dedicated an entire volume in the esteemed ‘Oxford Handbooks’ series, which is recognized globally as a leading reference in the social sciences. Spearheaded by economist Karim El Aynaoui, the Executive President of the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) and the Executive Vice President of UM6P, the handbook also receives contributions from Arkebe Oqubay, an Ethiopian expert in industrialization. Together, they have united the efforts of 53 distinguished authors, including researchers, former ministers, and practitioners, to conduct an extensive analysis of the Moroccan economy from the aftermath of independence to the projected developments of 2025.
A Comprehensive Resource for Diverse Audiences
After two and a half years of meticulous research and writing, this extensive work comprises 34 chapters and offers complete free access. It aims not only to serve as a pedagogical tool for academic institutions but also to provide empirical data for policymakers and to act as an academic showcase for the PCNS, which is candid about its ambitions to influence the global discourse surrounding the development trajectories of the Global South. This initiative reflects a commitment to fostering informed discussions and insights into economic development in Morocco and beyond.
