The String Cheese Incident, the renowned jam band, has made a remarkable foray into the African music scene, delivering their first-ever performances on the continent this past weekend. The band hosted a series of three two-set concerts at Villa Marco in Marrakech, Morocco, as part of their much-anticipated Moroccan Incident event. This unique destination concert series not only showcased their eclectic musical style but also incorporated local cultural elements, making it a distinctive experience for attendees. The following day, the band expertly transitioned from Talking Heads’ "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" into the upbeat “Fete Tama,” showcasing their signature seamless blending of genres. In a fitting encore, they performed a rendition of Paul Simon's beloved "Under African Skies," a song they have revisited approximately 80 times since its debut in 2000. The final concert on Saturday brought a special highlight as they invited Essaouira-based gnawa musician Hind Ennaira and her ensemble to join them on stage for a series of traditional jams, creating a rich fusion of styles that resonated with the audience. To add to the unique experience, concert-goers were invited to partake in camel rides during the performance, blending musical enjoyment with a taste of Moroccan culture. The String Cheese Incident is set to continue their tour with an appearance at their annual Huluween event in Live Oak, Florida, from October 23-25.
