Economic Contributions of Key Regions in Morocco

The High Commission for Planning has revealed that the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima collectively accounted for a significant portion of Morocco's national wealth in 2024, contributing a remarkable 58.4% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This concentration of wealth is primarily attributed to the dynamic industrial, commercial, and service sectors thriving in these areas, alongside their well-established infrastructure.

Specifically, the Casablanca-Settat region made the largest contribution at 32.3% of the national GDP, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra at 15.5%, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima at 10.7%. In contrast, five other regions combined provided a total of 33.8% of the national GDP, demonstrating their essential role, albeit with less dominance compared to the top three regions. These regions include Marrakech-Safi (8.7%), Fès-Meknès (8.2%), Souss-Massa (6.6%), Beni Mellal-Khénifra (5.3%), and the Oriental region (5.1%).

Household Consumption and Economic Growth Rates

In terms of household consumption, the same five regions captured nearly three-quarters (74.4%) of the total final consumption expenditures. Notably, the Casablanca-Settat region alone accounted for 25.3% of national household consumption expenditures, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (14.8%), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (11.6%), Fès-Meknès (11.4%), and Marrakech-Safi (11.3%). This equated to a national household expenditure of 944.1 billion dirhams in 2024. The remaining regions combined contributed approximately 25.6% of national household consumption, with shares ranging from 0.8% for the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region to 7.2% for Souss-Massa.

Furthermore, the High Commission reported that two-thirds of Morocco's regions achieved GDP growth rates exceeding the national average of 4.4% in 2024. Regions such as Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra recorded a growth rate of 7.6%, followed by Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab at 7%, and Souss-Massa at 6.8%. Other regions like Drâa-Tafilalet and the Oriental region also demonstrated commendable growth, contributing positively to Morocco's overall economic performance.

In summary, Morocco's economy experienced a growth rate of 4.4% in 2024, with the GDP reaching 1,550.45 billion dirhams in volume terms. In current prices, the GDP amounted to 1,614.57 billion dirhams, reflecting an increase of 8.7% compared to the previous year. This robust economic performance underscores the pivotal role played by the leading regions in shaping the national economic landscape.
