Three Regions Drive 58.4% of National Wealth in 2024, According to HCP

Economic Impact of Key Moroccan Regions

In a significant report released by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), it was unveiled that three regions—Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima—collectively generated an impressive 58.4% of Morocco's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024. This concentration of wealth underscores the economic prowess of these regions, which are marked by high levels of industrialization, commerce, and service sectors. The HCP's findings indicate that Casablanca-Settat alone contributed 32.3% to the national GDP, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra at 15.5%, and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima at 10.7%. The report highlights the crucial role played by key infrastructures in these areas, facilitating their economic activities and growth.

Additionally, the report notes that five other regions contributed collectively to 33.8% of the national GDP, albeit to a lesser extent than the leading trio. These regions include Marrakech-Safi, Fès-Meknès, Souss-Massa, Béni Mellal-Khénifra, and the Oriental, with contributions ranging from 5.1% to 8.7%. Meanwhile, the regions of Drâa-Tafilalet, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab accounted for 7.8% of the GDP creation, illustrating a broader distribution of economic activity across the country.

The findings also reveal a slight widening of regional disparities in wealth creation, with the average absolute gap between the GDP of various regions and the regional average increasing from 83.6 billion dirhams in 2023 to 90.9 billion dirhams in 2024. This trend raises concerns about equitable growth across different areas of Morocco, emphasizing the need for targeted policies aimed at addressing these disparities.
