Three Tons of Drugs Seized in France Linked to Morocco

Significant Drug Busts in France Tied to Moroccan Trafficking Networks

In a monumental crackdown on drug trafficking, French authorities have successfully seized nearly 2.7 tons of illegal substances, primarily cannabis resin, at the port of Sète in southern France. This operation is part of a larger investigation into an organized international drug trafficking network with links to Morocco. Additionally, over one ton of cannabis was confiscated from a shipping container that had arrived from Le Havre. The Lille prosecutor's office has initiated a preliminary investigation into the trafficking network that facilitated the importation of cannabis via maritime and land routes from Morocco.

The operation, which unfolded simultaneously across four different locations in France, resulted in the apprehension of two suspects. These individuals included the driver of the vehicle that transported the drugs and another person identified by investigators as a potential logistical coordinator for the trafficking network. This discovery highlights the extensive reach and organization of drug trafficking operations originating from Morocco.

In a related incident on May 19, police arrested seven individuals who were in the process of unloading a container from the port of Le Havre. Inside this container, authorities found 1.1 tons of cannabis buds, meticulously packaged in heat-sealed bags, alongside 30 kilograms of cannabis pollen and 78 kilograms of cannabis resin concealed within clothing boxes. The scale of these operations underscores the ongoing challenges that French authorities face in combatting drug trafficking and the vital role of international cooperation in addressing these complex issues.
