Three Tons of Drugs Seized in France Linked to Morocco

Major Drug Seizures in France: A Growing Concern

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, French authorities announced the seizure of nearly 2.7 tons of illegal substances, primarily cannabis resin, at the port of Sète, located in southern France. This operation is reportedly linked to a broader international drug trafficking network originating from Morocco. Additionally, more than one ton of cannabis was confiscated from a container that had arrived from the port of Le Havre. This operation underscores the persistent challenge that drug smuggling poses to French law enforcement agencies.

The Lille prosecutor's office has initiated a preliminary investigation, assigning the gendarmerie to explore the intricate web of organized drug trafficking operations. Investigators are focusing on the maritime and terrestrial importation routes used to smuggle cannabis from Morocco into France. This coordinated effort involved simultaneous operations across four sites in France, culminating in the substantial drug haul at the port of Sète. The authorities confirmed that the drugs were transported in a vehicle that arrived at the port, highlighting the sophisticated methods employed by traffickers.

In conjunction with the Sète operation, another significant bust occurred on May 19, when seven individuals were arrested while unloading a container at the port of Le Havre. Inside this container, authorities discovered 1.1 tons of cannabis buds packaged in vacuum-sealed bags, along with 30 kilograms of cannabis pollen and 78 kilograms of cannabis resin, all cleverly concealed within clothing cartons. These arrests reflect the ongoing efforts of French law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and protect public safety.
