Three Tons of Narcotics Seized in France, Linked to Morocco

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, French authorities have seized nearly 2.7 tons of narcotics, predominantly cannabis resin, at the port of Sète in southern France. This operation, which occurred in conjunction with another seizure of over one ton of cannabis arriving from the port of Le Havre, has been associated with drug trafficking networks operating out of Morocco. The Lille prosecutor's office has initiated a preliminary investigation into an organized international drug trafficking ring that has been importing cannabis from Morocco via both maritime and land routes.

The operation unfolded across four locations within France and led to the apprehension of two individuals: the driver of the vehicle carrying the drugs and another suspect believed to be a logistics coordinator for the trafficking network. The scale of this operation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combatting the influx of illegal substances from Morocco, a country often linked to the European drug trade.

In a separate incident on May 19, authorities arrested seven individuals who were unloading a container at the port of Le Havre. Inside this container, investigators discovered 1.1 tons of cannabis herb packed in vacuum-sealed bags, along with 30 kg of cannabis pollen and 78 kg of cannabis resin hidden among boxes of clothing. These coordinated efforts highlight the relentless pursuit of drug traffickers and the complexities involved in dismantling such sophisticated networks.
