Tim Mälzer Advocates for Plant-Based Diets Despite His Culinary Choices

On the menu of his restaurant, Bullerei, renowned chef Tim Mälzer features a variety of meats, including ham, trout, and beef. Nevertheless, he believes that abstaining from animal products is "the smartest decision" one can make today. While Mälzer himself does not follow a vegan or vegetarian diet, he expressed in an interview with prisma that he considers adopting vegan and vegetarian eating habits as a highly intelligent choice. He acknowledges, however, that "humans are humans, and change is hard."

Mälzer warns that disregarding "this process" and solely demanding a diet free of animal products will ultimately lead to no real change. He finds the moralistic stance surrounding dietary choices bothersome, stating, "We take a big step back when anyone who makes a mistake is automatically labeled a sinner. We don't have to be that harsh." He particularly empathizes with older generations, recognizing that changes can be especially challenging for them. While he believes the older generation has the right to maintain certain structures, he asserts that there is no right to stubbornness.

Starting Sunday, April 12, Mälzer will once again be showcasing fish and meat on camera as he embarks on a culinary journey for the season premiere of "Kitchen Impossible," traveling to Morocco and Portugal. Throughout the eleventh season of the VOX format, he will face challenges in various locations, including the three-star Haerlin restaurant in Hamburg, Mallorca, France, and Austria's Attersee. For the first time, Mälzer will be represented by his colleague Roland Trettl in several episodes due to a sabbatical Mälzer took last year. He explained in a teleschau interview that he has been operating at a very high pace for many years and wanted to take a moment to reflect on what truly matters in his life, asking himself where he is simply going through the motions. Mälzer emphasizes that such a process cannot be completed in just a long weekend on Sylt.
