Strong Performance Leads Toyota Gazoo Racing to the Forefront

In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC (TGR W2RC) surged ahead during Stage 4 of the 2026 Rallye du Maroc, clinching a one-two position as they approach the final day of this thrilling event, which forms part of the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC). The stage on Friday unfolded over a demanding 319 km timed section characterized by high speeds, intricate navigation, and a diverse range of terrain. Starting from fast, flowing tracks, the route led competitors through stunning valleys, rugged canyons, and challenging mountain paths. The TGR W2RC teams executed a flawless strategy, maintaining their lead with just one stage remaining.

Seth Quintero, alongside navigator Andrew Short, claimed the overall lead early in the stage, roughly 100 km in, and worked diligently to expand their advantage throughout the day. Their #203 DKR GR Hilux finished sixth for the stage, yet more crucially, they established a commanding 2 minutes and 45 seconds lead atop the overall standings. This sets them in a strong position to potentially take the lead in the drivers’ World Championship during the decisive Stage 5.

Perfect Execution and Future Challenges

Competing alongside Quintero and Short, Henk Lategan and Brett Cummings also delivered a stellar performance, moving into second place overall after Stage 4. Following a challenging start in the previous stage, they quickly grasped their pace, overtaking several competitors to finish second in their #202 DKR GR Hilux. Their determination was evident as they briefly held the stage lead in the early kilometers of the day, showcasing their resilience and capability on the track.

Meanwhile, Akira Miura and Armand Monleón faced their own set of challenges but managed to regain momentum after a mechanical setback in Stage 3. Despite running in the dust of other competitors, they completed Stage 4 in 17th place, leaving them 35th overall. The experience they gained in desert conditions will be invaluable as they prepare for the final stage.

With more than 1,000 km of timed sections completed, the competitors now look ahead to the ultimate stage that will determine their standings in the Rallye du Maroc. Stage 5 promises another test of endurance and skill as teams will tackle a 259 km competitive section, looping south of Zagora before culminating in a podium ceremony.

Quotes from the Drivers:

Henk Lategan: "We had a good day. Starting from 12th on the road, we finished eighth, overtaking several cars along the way. Although it was a fast stage, I was hoping for more technical sections to gain further time. Today, however, was about redemption after the time lost yesterday, and we're ready to fight on Stage 5."

Seth Quintero: "It was another amazing day for us. We have managed the race effectively, pushing when necessary and easing off when needed. The DKR GR Hilux has been performing exceptionally well, and the team has been fantastic. With a lead of over two minutes, we are excited but aware that our competitors will be coming at us hard in the last stage."

Akira Miura: "Today’s stage was enjoyable and reminiscent of the Dakar rally conditions. Although we faced challenges with dust, the upcoming stage presents a better starting position, which should aid our performance. Our goal remains to finish this tough rally strong."
