In a heartbreaking incident in 2023, a Moroccan man, who was employed in Saudi Arabia, lost his life alongside his wife and children in a tragic car accident while on vacation in Morocco. This unfortunate event has left his heirs in a state of uncertainty regarding the financial compensations that are reportedly still inaccessible to them. In response, Deputy Youssef Bayazid, a member of the Progress and Socialism Party in the House of Representatives, has formally reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging them to locate the funds that are believed to be held by the Moroccan embassy in Riyadh.
The deceased individual, identified by the initials A.R., had been working in a private Saudi company before the fatal accident. Following his untimely death, it is alleged that his employer transferred all of his financial entitlements to the Moroccan embassy in Riyadh. The heirs had previously submitted the necessary legal documents required for the processing of their claims, as reported by _Assabah_, which claims to have obtained a copy of the parliamentary correspondence.
These funds were supposed to be forwarded to the Caisse de dépôt et de gestion (CDG) in Morocco, an institution responsible for managing and safeguarding such compensations before distributing them to the rightful heirs. However, three years after the tragic accident, it appears that this transfer has yet to be carried out, leaving the heirs in a precarious situation.
Heirs Left in the Dark About Financial Status
According to the request submitted to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, available information suggests that the funds are still retained by the services of the Moroccan embassy in Riyadh. The heirs, however, express frustration over their lack of precise information regarding the amount, the current location of the funds, or the reasons behind the delay in processing their claims. This uncertainty has prompted Youssef Bayazid to call for an investigation into the whereabouts of the funds and to expedite their transfer to the CDG. The goal is to enable the legal heirs to access the compensation in accordance with Moroccan law.
The Caisse de dépôt et de gestion plays a crucial role in safeguarding the inheritances and compensations owed to heirs who are established in Morocco and are beneficiaries of deceased nationals abroad.
