Investigation Underway Following Discovery of Charred Remains
The charred remains of a young man in his twenties, who worked as a driver for the ride-hailing service InDrive, have been discovered in a desolate area of Ouled Azzouz, located near Casablanca. Originally from Kénitra, the victim had been reported missing on the third day of Eid al-Adha. Authorities have dispatched specialized units from the royal gendarmerie to investigate the case, focusing on the possibility of abduction followed by murder, as the victim's vehicle, a black Renault Clio, remains unaccounted for. This report is sourced from the daily newspaper, Al Akhbar.
On June 1, 2026, at 19:39, law enforcement agencies in the Casablanca region, encompassing all units, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of this young VTC driver. His completely burned body was found during a routine patrol by gendarmes in the outskirts of the city. Preliminary investigation results indicate that the victim had vanished on the third day of Eid al-Adha under still unclear circumstances, while driving the untraceable black Renault Clio.
Authorities Mobilize for Comprehensive Investigation
The disappearance of the vehicle supports the theory of abduction, followed by the murder of the victim, with the perpetrators apparently attempting to conceal their crime by incinerating the body before stealing the car. The authorities regard this case as particularly serious, prompting an immediate alert across police services in the Casablanca region. A specialized commando team from the gendarmerie, along with scientific and technical units, police dogs, and advanced technological resources, have been deployed to the crime scene for a thorough examination.
This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder for the people of Casablanca, recalling a similar murder that occurred last April, where a taxi driver in his seventies was killed by two fellow drivers. Furthermore, the murder of this young man also brings to mind a recent theft of a taxi by an armed individual who subsequently used the stolen vehicle to rob women.
In connection with these recent events, the Hay El Hassani judicial police in the Casablanca suburbs had apprehended an individual with numerous criminal records just days before Eid. This repeat offender was arrested shortly after committing two snatch thefts on women, whom he had picked up in the stolen taxi, before being caught red-handed while driving near Casablanca, as reported by Al Akhbar.
Moreover, the publication highlights that two years ago, the Rabat judicial police handled a similar case: a driver registered on the InDrive platform was lured by two individuals for a ride from Rabat to Témara, only to be murdered, with his body discarded en route in the Sidi Bettache forest. The two criminals were later apprehended, tried, and sentenced to life imprisonment.
