A Gruesome Act of Violence in Rural Morocco
A man in his sixties tragically lost his life at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez last Sunday, just hours after being admitted in critical condition. This unfortunate incident unfolded when his wife allegedly poured boiling oil on him and assaulted him with a sharp object at their home in a rural area of Ben Faras, located approximately 36 kilometers from Fez. The violent altercation reportedly stemmed from escalating family issues that had intensified over the past few months.
Despite the medical team's efforts to save him, the victim succumbed to severe injuries sustained across various parts of his body. Early on Friday morning, he had been rushed to the Ibn Bajjah regional hospital in Taza for emergency care, but due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was transferred to Fez where he was placed under intensive medical supervision. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after his arrival.
According to local news reports, the victim was subjected to severe burns after his wife poured a significant amount of boiling oil on him while he was sleeping at around 4 AM on Friday. The attack did not end there; she also struck him on the head with a sharp instrument, inflicting a deep wound that caused him to lose consciousness, after which she continued her brutal assault.
The victim's screams drew the attention of nearby neighbors, who intervened and alerted the authorities. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to the regional hospital. Meanwhile, the wife was apprehended and placed under arrest, pending an investigation ordered by the public prosecutor, which is being conducted under direct supervision.
This tragic incident has left both families and neighbors in shock, raising questions about the underlying reasons behind such a violent act. It has evoked memories of similar cases where spouses have tragically turned against each other, as seen in other rural areas, such as the recent incident in the village of Ouled Azm in Taounate.
