Details of the Incident

A tragic incident unfolded in Spinola Gardens on Sunday morning when a 31-year-old Moroccan man was discovered lifeless following an altercation. The police were alerted to the situation at approximately 6:30 AM, and upon arrival, they confirmed the man's unresponsive state. Initial investigations revealed that a confrontation had occurred shortly before the discovery, involving the victim and a 27-year-old Polish man, who subsequently fled the scene.

In the wake of this alarming discovery, law enforcement launched an extensive search operation. Utilizing CCTV footage that captured the events leading up to the incident, the police successfully identified the alleged aggressor. He was located and apprehended in the vicinity of St George's Bay. Police spokesperson Brandon Pisani reported that the Rapid Intervention Unit executed the arrest, and the suspect is currently in custody while being interrogated.

While the circumstances surrounding the victim's death remain unclear, law enforcement officials have stated that further insights are anticipated following an autopsy. Pisani indicated that although it is confirmed that an argument took place, the exact cause of death has yet to be determined. The victim's body has been transferred to the mortuary for the necessary examination.

Regarding the identification of the alleged aggressor, police utilized CCTV footage and conducted interviews with several witnesses in the area. The individual was initially identified based on his clothing, and the investigation is focused on the time frame of the altercation, believed to have occurred between 5:30 AM and 7:30 AM on Sunday, a period characterized by limited foot traffic in the vicinity. When questioned about any prior relationship between the two men, Pisani noted that there seems to be no known connection at this time, and inquiries continue regarding their residency status in Malta.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud has been informed of the situation and has initiated an inquiry, appointing multiple experts to aid in the investigation. Both the district police and the Major Crimes Unit are actively pursuing the case to uncover more details.
