Transforming Boeing 777-300ER into Cargo Planes: A New Era in Casablanca

Major Aerospace Initiative Launched in Casablanca

A significant aerospace initiative is underway at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, where the Kansas Modification Center (KMC), Stratos Industries, and Integrated Aerospace Alliance (IAA) are collaborating to enhance the technical capabilities required for converting Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from passenger to cargo configurations. This industrial operation is designed to boost the capacity for converting these long-haul aircraft, as confirmed by a spokesperson from Barlamane.com, who stated that "Kansas Modification Center, Stratos Industries, and Integrated Aerospace Alliance are working together to increase the conversion capability of the Boeing 777-300ER from passenger to cargo at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca.”

Expanding Conversion Capacity for the Aerospace Sector

The success of this project is largely dependent on a robust infrastructure program entrusted to Stratos Industries. This company is responsible for constructing three large hangars in Morocco, specifically designed to accommodate wide-body aircraft. This expansion is expected to significantly enhance the annual conversion rate, allowing KMC to increase its production of Boeing 777-300ER conversions by as much as eight additional aircraft per year. The P2F (Passenger to Freighter) transformation is currently one of the most sought-after operations within the aerospace industry, with many carriers opting to convert their older long-haul aircraft for air freight purposes. The initiative in Casablanca aims to support the growing international demand for such conversions, catering to a market where "the Moroccan project will meet the rising global demand for 777-300ER cargo aircraft from clients based in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.”

In addition to the hangars, the industrial setup will include the construction of a specialized hangar for the painting of wide-body aircraft. This facility will be a collaborative effort with a strategic partner of Stratos Industries, thereby completing the technical ecosystem required to operate effectively at the Casablanca platform. According to insiders, "the project will be complemented by the construction and operation of a painting hangar for wide-body aircraft, executed by a strategic partner of Stratos." With this array of facilities, the Casablanca airport is progressively becoming equipped to handle the most complex structural transformations of long-haul aircraft, which involve complete cabin disassembly, reconfiguration of main decks for freight, adaptation of handling systems, and thorough inspections of pressurized structures. The overarching goal of this initiative is to enable the site in Casablanca to become a pivotal hub for technical flows connecting freight operators across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, thus firmly establishing this aerospace infrastructure within international heavy maintenance and conversion circuits for large civil aircraft.
