Trial of Mosque Imam's Killer and Filial Paternal Homicide Occurs Simultaneously in Fez

Shocking Developments in Fez: Two Homicides in One Court Session

In a dramatic court session held on March 12, 2026, the public prosecutor at the Fez Court of Appeal oversaw the case of a man accused of murdering a mosque imam in the Douar of Ras Tabouda in the region of Sefrou. The accused is charged with premeditated murder, having allegedly committed the crime with intent and malice, leading to his immediate detention at the local prison in Bourkaiz. His case was swiftly referred to the primary criminal chamber, where the trial commenced today.

The individual, currently in custody, was apprehended by the Sefrou gendarmerie shortly after the incident, which took place just hours before. In light of the gravity of the crime, the court summoned six witnesses to provide their statements regarding the murder, along with the family members of the deceased imam, to gather comprehensive insights into the case. This trial comes on the heels of the emergence of troubling video footage depicting the accused wielding a large knife and rifling through the pockets of the deceased imam’s body near the mosque. The circumstances surrounding his arrest involved intervention from local citizens who managed to detain him before handing him over to the authorities.

Simultaneously, the court also addressed the case of another individual accused of murdering his father in the Ouinat Al-Hajj neighborhood. This defendant appeared in the same session and was also directly referred to the court by the public prosecutor after being arrested by judicial police from the Fez security department the previous Friday. Prior to his questioning, the accused underwent a psychological assessment at Ibn Al-Hassan Hospital for Mental and Psychological Disorders to ascertain his mental state. Following this evaluation, he was ordered to be detained in Bourkaiz prison, facing charges of paternal homicide and corpse desecration.
