Tunisia and Morocco Join List of Visa Fee Exemptions for Ireland
According to official information released by the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD), citizens of Tunisia and Morocco are among 16 nationalities that are exempt from visa fees when applying for a visa to Ireland. This exemption applies specifically to the processing fees associated with the visa application; however, it does not eliminate the requirement for a visa itself. Therefore, nationals from these countries can apply for an Irish visa without having to pay the standard processing fees. The official list includes Tunisia, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Uganda, and Zambia, along with several nations from Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
The official list enumerated by the Irish authorities includes the following countries: Bosnia, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Peru, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia.
Understanding the Visa Fee Structure
For nationalities that do not enjoy this exemption, the current visa fees for Ireland are set at €60 for a single entry, €100 for multiple entries, and €25 for a transit visa, as detailed by the Immigration Service Delivery. These fees are categorized as administrative charges that cover the processing of the application and are non-refundable in the event of a refusal or withdrawal of the application. Thus, the exemption provided to these 16 nationalities allows them to avoid these visa fees; however, it is crucial to note that this does not mean that individuals from these countries can enter Ireland without a visa. Those who are subject to the visa requirement must still apply prior to their travel and meet the applicable entry conditions.
The Irish administration emphasizes that visa-required nationals must submit their applications before traveling. For short stay visas categorized as “C,” individuals may apply for various reasons, including tourism, family or friend visits, certain business trips, conferences, or specific study purposes.
It is also important to mention that additional fees might still apply, particularly for the submission or processing of documents. Applicants should verify any potential fees imposed by application processing centers with the relevant visa office, embassy, consulate, or service provider.
Moreover, Ireland is not a member of the Schengen Area; thus, Irish visa regulations are distinct from those applicable to Schengen visas. In addition to the 16 nationalities listed, Ireland has provisions for other exemptions from visa fees under certain conditions, which include family members of Irish citizens, certain family members of citizens from the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland benefiting from the free movement directive, as well as holders of diplomatic, service, or official passports traveling on official duties.
