Two Algerians Arrested in Marrakech for Suspected Counterfeit Currency

On the evening of August 16, 2026, authorities from the 19th security district in Marrakech, with assistance from the investigative team of the 4th security precinct, apprehended two Algerian nationals in their twenties on suspicion of being involved in the possession and distribution of counterfeit foreign currency. The incident unfolded when a delivery driver received a request to drop off a package at a luxury residential complex in the "Prestigia" area of Marrakech.

After completing the delivery, the suspects attempted to pay the driver with foreign banknotes. However, the driver grew suspicious of the legitimacy of the notes and decided to take them to a nearby bank for verification and exchange. Upon inspection, the bank's verification equipment indicated that the bills were counterfeit, prompting the driver to immediately report the matter to the local police station.

Upon receiving the report, law enforcement initiated an investigation and field inquiries. They were able to identify and apprehend the suspects swiftly. The two individuals are now under investigation, supervised by the competent public prosecutor, to uncover the details surrounding the case, track the origin of the counterfeit currency, and determine if there are any additional parties involved in this illicit activity.
