Two Arrested for Drug Possession and Trafficking in Marrakech

Recent Drug-Related Arrests in Marrakech

On the night of Saturday, July 18, 2026, law enforcement authorities in Marrakech apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in separate cases related to drug possession and trafficking. The arrests were made by officers from the seventh police district in the city, reflecting the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region.

According to security sources, the first operation took place in the "Diour El Massaken" area, where the first suspect was caught in the act with approximately two and a half kilograms of a narcotic substance known locally as "maajoon." This seizure highlights the serious issues surrounding drug use and distribution within the community.

In a subsequent intervention carried out by the same police unit in the "Zaharia" neighborhood, the second suspect was arrested while in possession of two slabs of cannabis resin, commonly referred to as "shira," intended for distribution. A background check on the arrested individuals revealed that both had previous criminal records, with the first being known for promoting "maajoon" and the second for trafficking in "shira."

Both suspects are currently held in police custody, pending an investigation overseen by the competent judicial authorities. This inquiry aims to uncover the broader implications of their criminal activities and to identify any additional individuals potentially involved in these drug trafficking operations. The police's proactive stance on such matters underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing drug-related crimes in urban areas.
