The Criminal Chamber of the Money Crimes Court at the Appeals Court in Fes has recently handed down its verdict in a significant embezzlement case involving two bank employees. The court's decision, delivered in the afternoon, has attracted considerable attention due to the immense sum involved, which exceeds 2.44 million dirhams (approximately 244 million centimes). Both employees have been sentenced to five years of imprisonment, alongside hefty fines ranging from 80,000 to 100,000 dirhams. As part of the court's decision, the first defendant is mandated to repay over 110 million centimes to the bank, in addition to a civil compensation amounting to 110,000 dirhams. The second defendant has been ordered to pay back more than 134 million centimes, along with a compensation of 130,000 dirhams. The court also annulled previous arrest warrants issued by the investigating judge against both defendants. They faced serious charges, including embezzlement of public funds and forgery of bank documents and computer records, which resulted in significant damages to third parties. Notably, the second defendant was additionally charged with fraudulent access to the automated data processing system, altering data, and manipulating information to obscure the embezzlement of customer deposits.
