UEMF Rises to Prominence as the Leading University in Morocco
The Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF) has recently achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the top position in Morocco and ranking 323rd globally among universities from 110 countries in the 2026 edition of the "UI GreenMetric" international ranking for sustainable universities. This recognition highlights UEMF's commitment to a development model that integrates academic excellence, research, innovation, environmental responsibility, international openness, and the overall quality of the university environment.
In a statement received by the electronic newspaper Hespress, UEMF reiterated that this achievement underscores the university's dedication to sustainability and quality education. The "UI GreenMetric" ranking is one of the most significant international assessments focused on the sustainability of higher education institutions, evaluating universities across various dimensions related to education, research, infrastructure, energy management, water and waste management, mobility, and governance.
A Journey of International Recognition
This recent accolade is part of a broader dynamic that reflects, according to the university, the qualitative leap in UEMF's standing across several prestigious international rankings. UEMF pointed to its ranking among global universities for 2026 (RUR), where it ranked first in Morocco and second in Africa in the previous edition, following the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Additionally, UEMF featured prominently in the Times Higher Education ranking for 2026, where it secured second place nationally and was categorized within the 401-600 range globally.
The upward trajectory of UEMF is further confirmed by the "ScholarGPS" system, positioning the university as the premier institution in Morocco, and by "U-Multirank," where it notably excelled, ranking first nationally in training and research, and among the top 25 universities worldwide in student mobility. On the research front, the university announced that eight of its faculty researchers were included in the Stanford-Elsevier ranking for 2025, identifying them as among the top 2% of the most influential scientists globally. This accomplishment is a testament to the high quality and significant impact of the research produced within UEMF.
These results, which encompass complementary dimensions of higher education, illustrate a continuous path intertwining academic quality, scientific research, societal impact, and sustainable development.
