The United Nations Climate Change High-Level Champions, in collaboration with the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action, have announced their comprehensive 2026 Work Programme. Commitment to Fair and Inclusive Solutions
In a statement reflecting the core mission of this initiative, Climate High-Level Champions Dan Ioschpe for COP30 and Samed Ağırbaş for COP31 emphasized the necessity of reaching communities that are most vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. “At the heart of this work is our conviction that the implementation of solutions must reach people on the ground, especially the communities most exposed to the impacts of climate change,” they stated. They further elaborated that the agenda framework aims to promote socioeconomic development while ensuring that the approach is fair, accessible, and inclusive.
The expansive Work Programme will unite hundreds of organizations, focusing on six thematic areas: energy, transport, industry, food, nature, water, cities, and human development. Participants will collaborate towards achieving 30 shared objectives underpinned by 120 practical implementation plans. Emphasizing the priorities set forth by the COP31 Presidency, the programme will spotlight ten focus areas, including the critical clean energy transition, food security, and zero waste initiatives.

Simon Stiell, the UN Climate Change Executive Secretary, underscored the shift in focus towards implementation, stating, “The focus of climate action is now firmly on implementation.” He highlighted that the Marrakech Partnership Work Programme establishes a robust framework for uniting diverse stakeholders—governments, businesses, investors, cities, regions, and civil society—to expedite climate solutions that empower countries to fulfill their climate commitments. “By strengthening collaboration, the Work Programme can turn global ambition into real progress for people, communities, and economies,” he added.
