The head of the Judicial Center of the Royal Gendarmerie in Bab Doukkala, Marrakech, Younes Akifi, has successfully uncovered a complex case of fraud that allegedly targeted dozens of young Moroccans. This scheme involved deceiving victims with promises of overseas job contracts in exchange for exorbitant fees, described as fantastical amounts.

According to exclusive information obtained by the newspaper, the investigations and inquiries led by the head of the Judicial Center have identified a suspect in his thirties believed to be at the helm of this operation. It has come to light that he was targeting victims from various cities across Morocco, exploiting their aspirations for migration and employment abroad. The suspect purportedly convinced them of his ability to secure job offers and travel documents in return for substantial financial sums.

Reports indicate that the number of identified victims has surpassed 30 individuals hailing from diverse Moroccan cities, with judicial investigations likely to uncover additional potential victims as the case unfolds.

As per available information, the Royal Gendarmerie undertook meticulous surveillance and tracking of the suspect, a process that lasted over a month. During this time, they gathered evidence regarding his movements and modus operandi, culminating in a well-coordinated sting operation that resulted in his arrest in the act.

During the search operation at the suspect's residence, the Gendarmerie discovered a significant number of passports along with contracts and documents bearing various names. These seized items are suspected to be linked to the fraudulent activities under investigation.

In initial interrogations, the suspect reportedly admitted to the accusations against him, claiming he had amassed considerable sums of money from his victims, amounting to over 10 million dirhams, according to his statements.

The Royal Gendarmerie continues its investigations into this case under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor's office, aiming to clarify all circumstances and details surrounding these actions, quantify the number of victims, and ascertain the total financial amounts collected. Additionally, they are working to verify the nature of the seized documents and contracts, as well as identifying any other potential accomplices involved in this case.

This operation highlights once again the peril of fraudulent networks that exploit the ambitions of youth seeking employment opportunities abroad, making false promises of job contracts and travel documents in exchange for high financial fees. The ongoing judicial investigations will further reveal the extent of this fraudulent scheme.
