Urgent Investigation Demanded by Football Association Amid Financial Controversy
The Association of Amateur Football Clubs of Cameroon (Acfac) has made a pressing request for the government to initiate an urgent investigation into the management practices of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), which is under the leadership of former football star Samuel Eto'o. This demand arises in light of serious allegations surrounding improper payments that allegedly took place during a friendly match between Cameroon and Russia in 2023.
In a statement released on Monday, Acfac highlighted the gravity of the accusations and the international stature of Samuel Eto'o, who has been accused by various media outlets of improperly receiving a payment from the Russian Football Federation related to the friendly match that took place on October 12, 2023. In this match, Cameroon suffered a narrow defeat, losing 1-0, which has since raised questions about the financial dealings associated with the event.
567,000 Euros at the Center of Controversy
At the heart of these accusations is a sum of approximately 567,000 euros (equivalent to about 372 million CFA francs) that the Russian federation allegedly transferred to a bank account not held by Fecafoot, thus breaching the terms of the contract between the two football associations. This situation has fueled further scrutiny regarding the financial operations within Fecafoot, particularly under Eto'o's presidency, and has prompted calls for transparency and accountability in how funds are managed within the organization.
